Food and Wine Pairings
If you’ve ever wondered why certain foods are paired with specific wines (steak and red Bordeaux, anyone?), this will be your chance to find out! Perfect to prepare for the holiday season, for those guests coming for Christmas dinner, to show off that new-found wine knowledge you’ve (possibly) amassed over the term! It should be a great tasting for both seasoned and beginner tasters to learn something new and have an enjoyable evening.
We will provide six white and six red wines for the tasting, along with a small plate of nibbles.
Event Sponsorship — The Gog Farm Shop
We are delighted to share that The Gog is sponsoring this event by providing five different cheeses for the tasting. Their generous support means we’ll have an excellent selection of high-quality local cheeses to pair with the wines. Attendees can look forward to exploring how each cheese interacts with different wine styles.

The Gog is a multi-award winning specialist food shop based just south of Cambridge, consisting of grocer, delicatessen and butcher. Based primarily on a small farm, the business prides itself in sourcing the best quality and finest tasting food from across East Anglia and the UK. At the core is a genuine family and team of food crafts people that care deeply about providing great customer service and trusted expert advice. Open 7 days a week with experts on hand every day to provide you with advice and inspiration to bring the best artisan food to the tables of Cambridgeshire.
We ask that you please aim to arrive 10-15 minutes before the session begins so that we can begin pouring immediately.
Tasting glasses: we ask that you please bring your own set of SIX tasting glasses to this and all future session. We will not be providing tasting glasses because we do not have the ability to wash and store hundreds of glasses and don’t want to pay corkage at our venues! Glasses are available to buy on our website here. You will be able to collect your glasses at the next tasting that you attend.
CUBWTS tasting guide: Our Tasting Guide, which is a phenomenal reference if you wish to learn more about blind tasting, is also available for purchase on our website here. It goes through a huge number of grape varieties and their identifiable features (including all the bankers) — an invaluable source of information. We highly recommend purchasing one!
