During this session, we will taste some of the most common wines and learn how to recognise them. These are the wines that appear often on restaurant menus, on shelves in shops, and also in competitions! These wines appear time and time again at our tastings, so after this session you’ll have a some wines to look out for in all other sessions.
Similarly to the previous session, we will guide you through the session and focus your attention on the different aspects of the wines that will help you to identify them: the aromas and flavours, as well as the levels of acid, alcohol, body, sugar, tannin and oak. A great follow-on from the previous session, but also a chance to cover the basics if you missed the last session!
This tasting will be led by Emer Jones, current Society President and top taster in the most recent Varsity Match against Oxford. She was also on the team who placed second in the international final of the Left Bank Bordeaux Cup last year.
The tasting will feature 6 white wines and 6 red wines.
